Mother's Day.

Mama.

I love you.

You're my best friend, my counselor, my role model, my hero, my security a lot of times, my confidante, walking buddy, my guidance in a ton of situations, my teacher.

You're the only person I can tell everything to.  You're the one I can share my little thoughts and dreams and fantasies with.  You're the one who encourages and takes a genuine interest in all the things I love and am passionate about, and that means the world to me.

You're never too busy to talk, never too occupied or carried away in life's obligations to listen to what I have to say, or what's going on with me at the moment, or to take a look at one of Luke's Lego creations.  :)

You're a hard worker, and efficient, and that's something I'm definitely going to need to learn from you--as well as how to not put oneself first, but to serve others.  You spend every. single. day. doing that, and half the time I don't pause to think about it or to be thankful, but you're amazing.

You taught me to never leave anyone out.  You taught me to people watch.  You taught me to never talk badly about anyone  You taught me to use my head.  You taught me to love kids.  You taught me to encourage people.  You taught me to be my best.  You taught me to be myself.  You taught me to not put others or myself down.  You taught me to be honest.  You taught me that real friends will respect my convictions.  You taught me what I need to look for in my future husband.  You taught me that Jesus is the most important thing.

Thank you for talking to me as a mature young person, and never treating me as a little kid.  It's made a huge difference in my life.  Thank you for sharing music with me.  Thank you for quoting movies with me.  Thank you for teaching me.  Thank you for being so wise and for sharing that wisdom with me--but giving me the freedom and training to think and to observe and reason and to make my own decisions.  Thank you for being a superhero nerd with me.  :)

Thank you for being who you are--strong, loving, wise, and really, just the best.  I love you to the moon and back!  :)

Love,
Joy :)

Faithful Fridays~Our friends at the Nursing Home

Hi everyone!

Before we started Luke's adoption, my mom and I went up to the nursing home with friends every Tuesday and helped out at bingo and visited with the residents there.  When we started Luke's adoption, we stopped.  We just got WAY too busy.  But, now, we've started back going on Thursdays.  We have special friends there.

There's Mr. Marvin, who is a WW2 veteran.  He was a cook.  He has cooked for President Eisenhower, General Patten, General Sumner, and more.  He told us that he liked Sumner better than he liked Eisenhower.  He was smarter.  But, Eisenhower had five stars, and Sumner had four.  He told us about what he called "booby traps" from the enemy.  They were attached to souvenirs.  They told the soldiers not to pick up the souvenirs, but some of the soldiers were hard-headed and they picked them up anyway.  He said he bet he could name two hundred men that he had fed that had died at his side.  They would be walking beside him and pick up the souvenirs and they just ripped them to pieces.

Mr. Marvin told us about his wife.  "She wasn't what you call a 'party woman.'  Partying takes money, ya know, and we didn't have it!"  He said they never thought about getting a divorce.  They were married for sixty-five years.

He told us that his Papa was born in 1894.  His brother died a little over a year and a half ago.  He turned eighty-eight on February 3rd, and he died on February 7th.  Mr. Marvin himself will turn ninety-four on November eighth!

We like hearing Mr. Marvin call out his bingos.  He announces so proudly, like a soldier would!  His entire room is decorated with little flags and he has a picture of him in the army hanging on his wall.  He always makes us smile!

We have other friends, too, like Mr. Richard.

Mr. Richard was living by himself fine, with a friend coming over daily to check on him.  One day, his dog ran to the door like it heard someone, so Mr. Richard got up and went to the door.  Someone knocked the door down on him.  He fell back and hurt his hip, hands, and knees.  He actually broke his hip.  The person who broke the door down didn't even bother to come in and rob Mr. Richard.  He just left.  Eventually, Mr. Richard's friend came by and saved Mr. Richard's life.  Now Mr. Richard is in the nursing home until he can walk.  He can stand just fine, but he can't walk.  Please keep him in your prayers--he needs to walk!  He's also been sick, so pray about that too, please.

Mr. Richard LOVES kids, but he and his wife couldn't have any, so they took several kids in to raise.  I don't think he meant that they adopted them.  I think he meant that they fostered them.

Mr. Richard has met two movie stars.  One of them was a man who was with his brother.  Their car broke down in front of the place where Mr. Desmore worked.  Mr. Desmore also showed us a picture of him when he was younger.  Mom said he looked like Clark Gable!  He had that little black mustache.

Another friend of ours, Mr. O.D., LOVES his music.  We've brought him Marty Robins music before, when we were going regularly, but it's been a year since then, and the CDs started skipping.  So we brought him some John Denver.  He likes Rocky Mountain High.  When we brought him the CD, we turned it on for him and we all just sat there and listened to one whole song.  It was one of those good silences.  :)  Mr. O.D. was just taking it all in.  He sort of looked like he was going to cry!

Mr. O.D. is a big man who ALWAYS wears a cowboy hat.  He's lived all over Texas.

Mr. O.D. has a very good memory.  He remembered what my dad did for work.  He remembered what birthday I came up to the nursing home for (that was my tenth.  I thought it was my eleventh, but he had a better memory than I did!  Mr. O.D. is so sweet--he gave me money on that birthday!).  He also remembered part of my last name.  He said that one of the best things about John Denver was that he wrote all his song himself.  He wrote Rocky Mountain High.  He said that the plane he was flying when he died (plane crash) was one he had built himself.  He said that he heard that John Denver got drunk, so he may have been drunk during that accident.

Another friend, Ms. Wanda, is very upbeat and smart.  She has the reddest hair!  Before she went in the nursing home, she told her son that she would go in if he made sure she kept on getting her hair fixed!  She had us arrange her pictures for her when we were going before, and now she had some more for us to arrange.  She mentioned something about making a collage, and so we asked my dad to make a big wooden frame for us to collage all her pictures into.  He went above and beyond and made it look like a house with a chimney and roof!  So we collaged all her pictures together and it looks great!

Ms. Viola is another great friend.  She is in her nineties and she gets up every morning before six and makes up her bed and cleans her bathroom.  The only reason she is in the nursing home is because she can't walk.  She offered, though, to mop her hallway from her wheelchair if the staff would give her a mop!  She doesn't like "any of those inside games (bingo)," she likes being outside!  When she was eighty years old, she was up on a ladder helping paint her house.  She never drove.  She always walked to her work.

Still another friend, Ms. Ruberta, LOVES jewelry.  She's a sweet lady and the assistant activities director told us that sometimes she will wear just ALL of her necklaces at one time.

There's a Chinese lady at the nursing home, Ms. Shun.  She is unresponsive.  Her family owns/operates a local Chinese resteraunt.  They have a Chinese TV channel set up for her and her bulletin board and wall is decorated with Chinese things.  Her daughter was in her room once (or we're guessing it was her daughter) and we met her.

This week, we're going on Friday to help out with manicures...fun!

All in all, we go into the nursing home with a goal to make the residents smile, and by the time we walk out, they're making US smile!  It's true: It's more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35)!

God bless,
Joy

This week's Waiting Kids!

The process of adopting Luke has changed me FOREVER!! :) Seeing all those kids who need to be adopted, on the shared lists and adoption blogs, I feel like I really need and definetly WANT to help out! So, I want to share with you some kids who need to be adopted. The following Wonderful Waiting Kids are from the Journey Of Hope website. Could you be their Forever Family?

This wonderful waiting little ray of sunshine is 12 years old. Her name is Sunny and she's very shy. She is in 4th grade and her favorite subjects are Chinese and English. She likes to play basketball and run. Sunny has been with a foster family for six years now. Her foster mother describes her as kind and loving, likes to share and help with housework. She says that Sunny saves her money for donating. Sunny has a mild intellectual delay due to hydrocephalus and a brain tumor which was repaired about eight years ago. Sunny also loves arts and crafts and brought several of her handicrafts to show the team from Journey Of Hope!

Drake is a little Kung Fu man! He loves Martial Arts and put on quite a show for the JOH visitors! He is 7 years old, and developmentally at or above target for his age. He is very athletic and very smart. He is in the 1st grade. He's a handsome little fella! Drake has deformity of his left face and ear.

Hope is a 6 year old little glam girl! :) She loves being on stage, singing, and expressing her imagination. She is also very friendly and likes to be the center of attention. Hope is just beautiful, as you can see! She was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and had a shunt; however, she later developed epilepsy seizures. Her orphanage reports that she hasn’t had a seizure for 6 months at the time of the JOH program. She can take care of herself and is very independent.

Jaxon is 7, and is in 1st grade. He is a good student and his favorite subjects in school are Math and Chinese. He also likes reading. He's very friendly and likes to talk! Jaxon is missing his left hand. He made a very pretty and colorful picture for the JOH team, complete with birds and butterflies and a blue sky and a little pond with fish!

That's all for now! These children are all such sweethearts and I hope they all find homes!

My report on Karen Kain

In my History, I'm learning about Canada. I was assigned to make a report about a famous person from Canada, so I chose Karen Kain, a Ballerina.

Karen Alexandra Kain was born on March 28th, 1951, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She was the child of Charles Alexander(an electrician), and Winifred Mary(A Real Estate Agent). She attended the National Ballet School of Toronto, Canada, when she was 11, in 1962, and graduated in 1969. After graduating, she went on to be the principal dancer of the National Ballet School of Canada, and soon after became the most well-known dancer in Canada! She married Ross Peterson.

In 1973, she got two silvers in the Second National Competition, one in the women's division, and another for best pas de Deux(A ballet performance danced by a male and female dancer) with Frank Augustyn. She retired from dancing for a little while in the late 1970's. In 1980, she came back and kept on dancing at the National Ballet of Canada, then retired 15 years later in 1997. During her time, she toured Korea and Japan, and in all danced in 56 performances, and was on TV numerous times.

She is now the President of the Dancer's Transition Centre. She is a great dancer, and was very talented and loved. She has honorary degrees from 5 universities, and in May of 1998, the French Goverment named her the Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters. Miss Karen Kain returned to the National Ballet of Canada, and is part of the Seniors Management Team.

Hope you enjoyed!

Joy

Picture Day for Nature!

The sun was shining really pretty today(Saturday), so I decided to go outside and try to capture the beauty! I've watched my mom take pictures for forever, and now I know some of her tricks. She taught me everything I know! I love photography...I'm gonna try to make Luke my little model. ;)

This one was taken from my clubhouse, right at the top of the slide.

I took this one laying on the ground right at the dividing line of our property and the neighbor's.

These two are of the flag in our backyard. We have three flags. One in our backyard, one in our front, and one in my grandmama and pop's front yard(next door).

These two are of the windmill we have in our backyard, with the grandkids' names...soon we'll add Luke's name!

The Knock-Out rosebushes....

The Azelea Bush....

Buttercups in the yard....

These I took of our tree. The last one I took by climbing our fence(right in front of the tree, and leaning backwards. It made me go light-headed! LOL!

Pop's pasture.....

Soccer.....

I hope you enjoyed the little tour of our yard!

Studio Judging Day, An Award, A Mystery Song, and a Grown up Actress....

Studio Judging day went great!

I have to say these three were the best:

1. Rachel's lyrical. It was great!. I liked the song. It was sweet. The song was "You're beautiful as you are" I think...Lol.

2. Meh big sister, Frankie's solo! It was like..a lyrical ballet sort of thing, to a tropical tune and it was so cool! She had on genie clothes! :)

3. It's hard to say, but it's like a tie between my friend Devyn's lycial solo to "Maybe" from the Annie movie, or my friend Sammie's jazz solo to "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Out of Your Hair" Both were great!

I think I did pretty good. Mom said that everybody clapped loud and started yelling when I got done. :D I dunno, though. My polishing teacher, Miss Kim, was sitting right in center where I could see her, and she was smiling. When I first got on stage, my knees were shaking! I kept almost falling when I was getting in place, but mom said you couldn't tell. :)

Okay, so after the very first year of my dancing at DAB, my little cousin Laci and I were watching the recital video! I had gone into the kitchen to get some yummy brownies, and Laci comes running in there just as I take a bite. "JOY JOY COME ER' COME ER' I wants to show you somethin'!" (( Yes, that's how she talked! :) )) So I followed her back into the bedroom, having to leave my precious brownie, and looked at the dance. It was a junior, Mackenzie. She's really nice, and it was her solo. I love that song now! But I can't find it on youtube! I've looked all over! I think it's called Sticks and Stones. Help me! =)

Have any of you seen the American Girl movie, Felicity? It's one of the best. I love Felicity. Well the other day, I was on Foopets, making a new little character for this book thingy on one of the forums, and I was going to make her look like the girl that plays Felicity! So I typed in the Felicity movie website. Now some people I know watch this show called "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" For the record, I hate that show. It's a show that does not have it's morals right.... I'm disappointed in Shailene Woodley. She plays the main part. I had seen her picture, and I thought she looked familiar. Well turns out, she's the girl that played Felicity! It's so cool! She's really pretty, too! Look!

Missing.....

Have you ever thought of the correct, overall definition of missing someone or "I miss you"?

I did.

It's weird, but the adoption process has made me think alot more. You see I've never met Luke....But I still miss him. I've never seen him, but I miss him. Missing someone doesn't have to mean you know them already. Missing is wanting their presence. It's funny, I get all these thoughts listening to "You'll be in my Heart". It's the song I now sing in the shower. =P

Just a random thought. Hope you enjoyed! Oh and by the way.....we sent off our dossier to Xiaoqing! That means it'll be on it's way to China soon! :D

Silly Siblings

Hi! I know I have been MIA, and I'm super sorry....we are going to dance four nights a week, soooo, I have to get a lot done. LOL I like being busy! Except I don't like being so busy I neglect my BLOG of all things! :)

Last night, as we were getting pictures of our family(which was very hard because we did it where one person held the camera up that was still in the picture! Colt calls it myspace style), Colt and I got silly. Well, it was mostly Colt. Then I started laughing and doing everything he did...It was really funny and I'm glad mom got it on camera...Here are some of my favorites...Can you tell who we are trying to be?

If you guessed Batman, you're right! Colt made this joke like three years ago, and now every time we think about Batman, we start doing that...we did it all through the movie....haha. So funny. Colt's always been an entertainer. Soooo fun!

This next one was just random....No, he isn't really licking his shoe!

And then we started laughing so hard, Colt was bent over...and mom accidentily snapped a picture. :D

And then we HAD to do peace signs...it's just COOL! :0) And you can see how hard Colt was laughing here hahahaha

And finally, the winning picture...after much silliness and AWESOME times..

That is one of the ten pictures we are sending to Luke in his first care package.
...................................Can you tell Colt doesn't like to cooperate in pictures? Yes, it's always been like that.

Ten Things and some News

Ten things I love about dance......

The passion: There is so much passion! Rather it be the remembrance of a loved one in a lyrical solo, or the sass of your best friend celebrating her birthday, dance just has so much passion!

The beautifulness: Dance is so pretty! I remember one year at this recital the audience had been very disruptive during all the dances. Well, this beautiful ballerina stepped on stage in pointe shoes, and BAM you could have heard a pindrop it was so quiet and intent! That is the magic of the dance slippers. :)

The peacefulness: When I'm dancing, all my worries melt away......I get happy....quiet, but happy.

The FUN: It's fun and totally awesome! I have been taking dance since I was three years old. This is my seventh year in dance. I could never live without it. I chose it over soccer, acting, modeling, and taekwondo. Yes, I did all these things at one time or another, and I gave them all up because they would interfere with dance. That's how much I love dance.

The creativity: With the right mind, you can make it so indivual and creative and imaginative! I love it! I love making what my teacher calls clumps, patterns, and etc.

The challenge: I like that it's your own challenge, and usually you can set your own goals because your teacher doesn't expect you to be picture perfect. And that's good.

The music: I love music! Me and mom sing in the car! We harmonize(well mom actually does the harmonizing), and we just sing, sing, and sing! One time we were singing QUIETLY for my grandmama, and an old lady called me to her table. She said that she heard singing and lifted up her head thinking who is that? And she saw me and mom! She said we were good and thanks for giving her a smile. It was cool! So, as you can imagine, I get every single song I hear at dance stuck in my head for a week, and mom starts singing it too! LOL :)

The atmosphere: I know this might sound weird, but when I'm in ballet tech, I feel like I'm in the Dega` days, when the teachers were strict, the songs had no words, just melodies, and you felt like a princess! In Jazz and Tap class, I feel like I'm in the sixties......funky music time! In production, since the theme is a spanish, I feel like I'm in the cuban nightclub from I love Lucy, and Ricky Ricardo is standing there singing the music!

The performance: I love the excitement and achieving feel of performing! I have learned that as long as you do your best, you have led a wonderful performance. I will be performing my Jazz/Tap in two recitals this year, solo in one, production in three, and ballet play in three. I'm excited! :) I will also be competing this year which I'm excited about now!

The opportunities: There are so many opportunites! Competions....production...solos, duets, trios, quartets, Russian Nutcracker, or as me and mom call it, Nussian Rutcracker....that is where the news comes in. I tried out for the nutcracker! This was my first year to try out, and I GOT A PART! Yeah, in the world touring real MOWCOW'S RUSSIAN NUTCRACKER BALLET! :) I'm a party guest! I'm soooo excited! :) :D And my "big sister", Frankie is in it too! :0 Haha like my smileys?

Well, thanks for stopping by! I'm slowly getting more and more time, so I'll try to get on blogger land more!

God bless, and give someone a hug today,
Love, Joy =D

Faithful Fridays

Aha! I got you! I'm on time! Yay! Hee hee...:)
So hi, my blogging friends! I hope you had a wonderful week, and that you will have a wonderful weekend.

Ok, for this Faithful Fridays, I'm thankful that we got good money news! We thought the homestudy would be alot, but guess what! It's not nearly as much...half as much as what we thought we would have to pay. That means, all we have to do is save some money up, which mom figures will be about a month, and while we're doing that, we'll be cleaning the house so that when we do save the money, we can just go ahead and start the homestudy! Aren't moms just wonderful? They're soo smart! :) And dads too, though. As I was typing this, my dad made a cool little laptop station, that was made out of a drummer stool! LOL I love my parents! Ok, now back to the story. Wait-that was the story! :)

And another thing I thought I'd let you know....I think my mom has the ability to know what songs I will dance to, because she guessed that the production number in dance this year would be spanish, and sure enough, It's going to be staged like it's in a Cuban nightclub! I'm sooooo excited!

If you participated in Faithful Fridays, let me know in a comment, and I'll come by to visit you!

God bless,
Love, Joy =D

New Siblings For Me!

Hey everyone! I'm sooo excited to tell you this, FINALLY! I wanted to let you know, that.........ok...are you ready? Drum roll....

We are going to try to adopt!

Yep, yep, yeppity, yep! It's true! I'm soooooooooooooooo excited! We're gonna trust the Lord to open doors for us. We are going to look into China. We checked out South Korea, Colt's birth country, but it's the most expensive out of ALL the countries! And, all the other countries had parent ages maxium to 44. My parents are older than that. China's maximum age is 50-55, depending on the child. We are going to try to get a toddler...about two or so. I'm so superly excited! We're just praying everything works out, and that we get the child really, really, REALLY soon. We've sent for some applications.

Also, My big sister from the dance party I went to Saturday night is awesome! Her name is Frankie! She's a junior. They gave us little sisters an "answer", and the big sisters, a "question". She came by with her friend in front, Cheyenne. Cheyenne asked me what my answer was. I told her it was Odette. "What? Hey Frankie! Come here and listen to Joy's answer!" I said, "Don't you know who that is? It's the lead character in Swan Lake!" Cheyenne said, "Frankie!". Then Frankie said, "Oh my gosh! You're my little sister!" And that was that! She's awesome! I love her like a real big sister!

And that's it! Thanks for stopping by.

God bless,
Love, Joy :-D
