Pinned It, Made It! Monday ~ Color Your Bobbi Pins!

Hi everyone!  Today I'm linking up with my mama for Pinned It, Made It! Monday.  Pinned It, Made It, Monday! is a weekly meme where we share something from Pinterest that we actually followed through with.  ;)

Today I wanted to show you this really neat way to color your bobbi pins!

Tired of black, shiny, dull bobbi pins?

Nail polish to the rescue!  :)

The original pin.
Get your regular bobbi pins ready.  I put them on the piece of cardboard they came on, but any piece of cardboard will do.  :)

Break out your nail polish...

And start painting!  It's so easy...

The tutorial doesn't show that you need to do both sides, but I did.  So after a while of painting and waiting for the pins to dry and painting some more and waiting some more, I finally got the finished product....

What you should know about doing this:
-If you're like me, you will get nail polish all over the cardboard.  Don't sweat it.  :)
-The bobbi pins will be a bit flaky at first, but it wears off after a little while.

This was a really neat idea.  The bobbi pins are darling...a perfect little touch.  :)

Well, that's it for today!  Have a great day and God bless!  :)

Faithful Fridays ~ Where You're Planted.

Hi everyone!  It's Friday again (which reminds me--has anyone heard that annoying song by Reb*cca Black that says "Friday, Friday" over and over again?  That song won't.leave.my.head.)!  Anyway.

Faithful Fridays is a weekly "meme" hosted on my blog.  I made it so that Christians would have a designated day (Friday) to share something from their Christian walk on their blog.  If you'd like to participate, grab the button above, write your post, and then come link up at the bottom of this post!  :)

Doodlebug

Today, I want to share a devotional with you.  It's from the devotional book His Princess (Love Letters from Your King) by Sheri Rose Shepherd.  Love this one!  The title of this particular devotional is "My Princess...Grow Where You are Planted."

"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."

-Romans 8:28

I know you sometimes wonder if your life has any real worth.  But I assure you that I can use you to impact those around you.  Just as I used Paul in prison, I will use you wherever you are or whatever circumstance you are in.  Let Me water you with My holy Word, and you will begin to bloom wherever you are planted.  Come to Me in prayer and let Me empower you with My spirit.  Even if you can't see the harvest of your hard work now, I promise that others will one day look back at the time you were in their lives and remember your acts of kindness, words of wisdom, and love for them.  So for now, My valuable princess, let Me help you blossom in a world that is searching for the meaning of life.

Love,
Your King and Gardener of Life

------------------------------------------------

God can use us in everyday situations--on the internet, hanging out with friends, helping out in the nursery or children's class at church--any way you can imagine.  So grow where you're planted.

Have a great day and God bless you!

Pinned it, Made it! Monday ~ Hairstyle

Hi everyone! Today I'm linking up with my mama for the weekly "meme" she started--Pinned it, Made it! Monday. The purpose of this is to share something that we've pinned on Pinterest and have actually followed through with. :) Visit my mama's blog, Country Girl at Home, by clicking on the button below!

For the first Pinned it, Made it! Monday, I wanted to share a hairstyle.

The original pin.
A friend was having her 16th birthday party yesterday, a formal dinner for the first half and then a swimming party for the second.  :D  So, I figured this was the perfect time to try out that hairstyle.  Amber, Colt's girlfriend, who happens to be a wonderful hairstylist, came out and did my hair.  The above pin was what we based it off of.

Getting started...

The finished product--a side view.
The other side.
The deliciously curly back!  :D
And just for fun, here's me in my dress.  :)

Amber is an amazing hairstylist...and I hope to be able to call her my sister-in-law soon.  *Wink, wink.*  :)

God bless you and have a great day!

Faithful Fridays ~ Father

Doodlebug

Faithful Fridays is a weekly "meme" hosted on my blog.  I made it so that Christians would have a designated day (Friday) to share something from their Christian walk on their blog.  If you'd like to participate, grab the button above, write your post, and then come link up at the bottom of this post!  :)

Have you ever seen a child ambush their father as he arrives home from work?  I'm sure we've done it ourselves.  He opens the door, perhaps calling out, "I'm home!"  The child runs into his father's arms.  He begins spilling out his thoughts over the day, chattering and chattering, following his father wherever he goes, explaining what's happened throughout the day.  And finally, as his father takes a seat in his favorite chair, he falls into his lap, cuddling close.

Sometimes, I feel like that child.  I lay down at night, and I begin spilling out my thoughts and requests to God.  I fall into his arms, and it feels good.  It's peaceful.

There's this line in the song Stronger by Mandisa.  Mama and I love it--she says it gives her chill bumps.  :)

Try and do the best you can
Hold on and let Him hold your hand
And go on and fall into the arms of Jesus

Fall into the arms of Jesus.  I love that.  :)

So today, friends, if you're feeling stressed, or angry, or sad, or afraid, fall into the arms of Jesus.  He'll always be there.

God bless you!

Writing, Journals, and Blank Pages.

Hi everyone!

So guys.  I'm in a writing kick right now.  And I know why.  :)

I'm taking this online writing class right now through Brave Writer.  I'm loving it, and it motivates me to write more.  It's actually a fan fiction class (which is motivating me to start in on some , and it just started Monday, but I can tell already that it's going to help me with my all-around writing.  :)

I'm loving it!

So now, I'm working on two stories; Upside Down, the one I've been posting here, and a fan fiction I just started that is based off The Chronicles of Narnia.  :D  And--shh!--there's a Captain America fan fiction brewing in my head, too.  Right now, I'm curled up in a blanket and it's raining outside...perfect weather for writing.  :)

So, lately my days have been filled with journaling...

{Via}  Boy, don't I wish I wish I had a beautiful pen like that.  :)

Blank pages...

Coming up with character names and researching facts--jotting down it all down on my handy sticky notes...

I have a ton of virtual sticky notes.  Let me tell ya, folks, those come in handy.  :)

and overall writing!

So, that was my little ramble of excitement about getting back into a writing roll.  What have you guys been up to?

Faithful Fridays ~ Should've Been Me

Hey everyone!  It's Friday!

I was just reflecting on how it seemed like I hadn't done Faithful Friday in a while...and then I realized I hadn't!  We were in Alabama last weekend and didn't get to post then, so I haven't participated in two weeks!  Sorry about that.  :)  I've got a song to share with you guys today, though...and let me tell you, it's something special.  I love it.  :)

I started Faithful Fridays so that Christians could have one designated day (although, of course, we shouldn't have to keep it to one day) a week to share something from their Faith--a prayer request, answered prayer, Bible verse, song, poem, or just something God's laid on your heart. Just grab the button above (which unfortunately doesn't link to my blog automatically, you'll have to put the link), make your post, then link up below!

                                              ~*~
I was listening to K-Love the other day.  I think we all know how much I love K-Love, our handy Christian radio station...it just rocks!  And you can get it too--just check out the website and find your local tuning!

Anyway, I've heard this song come on a few times recently, and I just love it.  It's called Should've Been Me and it's by Citizen Way.  I love these lyrics...because I think that sometimes we I go through all the motions of going to church, reading my Bible, praying, and all that, and it never quite goes through the surface.  And this song just kind of puts things into respective.  It should've been me.  I should've been hanging there on a cross.

I've read the story
I've seen the movie
I give to charity
And tithe my ten percent
These I remember
But I so easily forget
All these years never heard it like this

It should've been me
It should've been us
Should've been there hanging on a cross
All of this shame
All of these scars
Should've been stains that were never washed
Why do I hide
Why do you try
Over and over and over again
I guess it just leaves saying thank God
It leaves me saying thank God, thank God
For the should've been

I live a good life
I love a great wife
Our kids are beautiful
We got friends down the street
If I'm so thankful
Why do I easily forget
That you died for all of this

For this heart you changed
This soul you raised
My God for taking my place
When…

Ben Calhoun from Citizen Way told the story of how "Should've Been Me" came about:

"Should've Been Me is one of those songs that was already written before I wrote it.  I was leading worship at a summer camp and the leader asked the students to sum up what they learned that week. One of the students said ‘Well, basically I learned that.., it should've been me.’ A melody and lyrics hit me like a freight train and I sang this song for everyone 20 minutes later. It's a reminder of what the Lord has done, and what He is doing in all of us whether we recognize it or not. It still humbles me and continues to change my heart.”

(Via)

I love this song and the meaning it carries.  It makes me start thinking every time I hear it.  I hope it does something for you, too.  :)

I'm doing another quick post to enter my photo in Emma's Black and White Wednesdays.  :)

Here is the photo I'm entering:

Okay, so I know this photo is more fall-ish...but I still like it.  :)

That's all for today!  Have a great day!

Upside Down ~ Helen's Story (Part VI)

The Coopers: Diane (or Mother), Eleanor, Helen, Katherine, and Jamie.
Helen blinked--once, twice.  She opened her eyes.  Then she squinted.  Bright sunlight was streaming in from somewhere.  Where was she?  Suddenly her eyes flew open.  The realization had hit her.  She was in Tennessee, where she would be taking refuge until...until when?  She looked over at her sister, who was sleeping beside her in their full-size bed.  She slowly lifted the covers, slid off the metal bed, and looked around at their little room here in the attic.

It was medium-sized.  The walls were an old, washed-out white color, and the ceiling was slanted.  There was a high window built into the slanted ceiling, and a trunk was pushed up to it.  On the wall across from the window, there was a wooden chest.  Beside the chest were the girls' empty suitcases, the contents of which had been put into the chest.  Those empty suitcases were a constant, miserable reminder to Helen that she wouldn't be going anywhere else soon. Next to the chest, a little farther down the wall, was a small door which led downstairs to the rest of the house.  On the wall opposite the girls' bed, there was a small mirror on the wall, and a little vanity, painted white, with little pink roses all over it.  Katherine had squealed when she saw it.

"A vanity table of our very own?!"

"Oh, yes," Mrs. McClellan had replied with a smile, "it was my sister's, but she passed away last winter and she left it to us.  I myself don't have much use for it, being an old woman and all."

Helen looked at her sleeping sister now.  She seemed so content here, so at home.  Helen herself felt out of place.  Gee.  Kids sure do bounce back quickly, she thought.

Helen stopped and listened closely.  She could hear people working in the fields outside, and the noises of the farm animals, and then--yes!  She could make it out now.  It was the sound and smell of eggs cooking!  The thought of eggs cheered her up.  Mother hadn't had time to make a good, full breakfast in a long time, so what a treat this would be!  She dashed towards Katherine and shook her awake.

"Katherine, come on!  Get up!  Mrs. McClellan is cooking eggs!"

Soon, the girls were dressed, faces washed, teeth brushed, and hair combed.  Helen helped Katherine braid her hair into two little braids by her shoulders, then put her own hair into a ponytail, tying in an old royal blue-colored satin ribbon her father had given her before he left for the war.  It was old and a bit ragged now, but she still loved it and refused to part with it.

The girls were bounded down the stairs.  They stopped outside Sergeant Milo's room, where the door was half open.  They began to tip-toe past her room, then heard a rustling noise and darted past, straight into Mr. McClellan.

"I'm sorry, sir.  My sister and I shouldn't have been running," Helen said politely.  Mr. McClellan scratched his head and then nodded.

"But, Helen, what if Seargen--"

"And we're going to go to breakfast now, sir, if that's alright."

"Yes, yes, no problem," he muttered, and walked out the door.

Katherine whirled around to look at Helen.

"What?" Helen said defensively.  "He may not want us talking about Sergeant Milo.  And we need to be careful.  We're new here, and we don't know what kind of people the McClellans are yet."

"I think they're positively lovely," replied Katherine firmly, then skipped off.  Helen grinned, shook her head, glanced up the stairs, then followed her sister into the kitchen.

"Well now, I'm glad you're up, I am.  It's time to get started on your first full day here at ole Rust."

"Ole Rust?  What's that?" asked Katherine as Mrs. McClellan spooned eggs onto her plate and filled her glass with fresh milk.

"Why, our farm, dearie!  That's what we call it.  There's so many rusty things here, you see, as we're an old farm.  Why, we have rusty farm tools, a rusty barn, a rather rusty house, and rusty bones ourselves!  Yes, we're Rust."

"Hm," replied Katherine, staring at her eggs, obviously thinking hard.  Helen began to eat her breakfast.

Sergeant Milo entered the room a few minutes later, still wearing her army uniform, and sat down at the table.  Mrs. McClellan walked and frowned slightly.  "Dearie, we'll have to find you some different clothes.  All the neighbors will be talkin' about you if we don't."

"Well, I can just wear this, it's no--"

"Now, now, dearie, don't worry, I have something that'll fit you, I'm sure.  Just give me a minute or two.  Head on to your room and I'll bring it up to you, alright?"

"Well, I..."  Agent Carter never finished her sentence.  Instead, she looked around, then stood up and climbed the stairs to her room.  Helen and Katherine exchanged glances, but continued eating in silence.  Twenty minutes later, they heard the stairs creaking.  Someone was coming down.  Mrs. McClellan came first, her face beaming.

"Well, if I do say so myself, Audrey is quite the beauty," she said with a grin and a wink to the girls.

Sergeant Milo--Audrey--came down the stairs slowly.  She glanced around quickly, then, seeing that no one else was around, looked at the girls.

The girls were struck silent.  A beauty--why, Audrey is gorgeous, Helen thought.  She was wearing a dress that hung a little below the knee, with a pretty, flowy, full light blue tulle skirt.  It had a high, wide waist made of the same light blue tulle which came up just a little under the bust.  The upper portion of the dress was short-sleeved, with a lovely, summery pattern of white daisies on light blue cotton.  It was a simple, beautiful dress, and Helen herself wondered where in the world Mrs. McClellan had acquired a dress like this.

"Well?  What do you think of it?"  Audrey seemed impatient, even a bit anxious.

"Well...why...why, you look...like a movie star!"  Katherine's eyes were as wide as saucers as she blurted this out.

Audrey looked off for a moment, grinning slightly.

"Sergeant Mi--erm, Audrey, you look beautiful," Helen said softly, and slowly.

Audrey lifted her eyes.  "Thank you, Helen."

Katherine immediately found her voice and began chattering to Audrey and Mrs. McClellan.  Helen looked at Audrey for a moment, then down at her lap.

A German accent?  Had she just heard a hint of a German accent in Audrey's voice?

DUM, DUM, DUM, DUM...haha!  I promise the story will start moving faster after this.  I needed to make a few points first.  :)  Oh, and yes, Sergeant Milo is (physically) modeled after Agent Carter from my favorite superhero movie.  You shouldn't be surprised!  Agent Carter perfectly fits Sergeant Milo/Audrey's look..I couldn't think of anyone else to model her appearance after!  :)

The Amazing Spiderman ~ Movie Review

Hey everyone!

So, ya'll.  I'm turning into a superhero nut.

You guys know how much I love Captain America...

and the Avengers...

so there's really no need to go into that.

But...enter Spiderman.  As in, the new Spiderman.  The amazing Spiderman.

I saw it first on Thursday, the night after it came out, with my cousins in Alabama.

And then again on Sunday with my parents and Luke.  Because it's that great!

Before I start the review, I want to let you know that I pay close attention to language and such in a movie, because when I write a review, I want to be able to warn my readers of how much or how little language and other "bad" content is in a movie.  I also like using THIS site to check out a movie before I go see it.

So anyway, the "D word" and "H word" were said a few times.  The "A word" was said once.  Once or twice, Peter Parker/Spiderman says "Mother..." or "Mother Hubbard..." and leaves it at that...which I know could have lead to something else, but it didn't.  Still, they could have left that out.

I'll say quickly that I was a bit confused by the movie at first...because I had expected it to be a prequel to the series, but it turned out to be a remake of the first Spiderman movie.  BUT, I loved it.  :)

And now...on with the review!

So for starters, we have the main role...

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spiderman!

Love his smile--so goofy.  :P

I think Andrew did a wonderful job!  Let's get this straight: I loved the other three Spiderman movies.  Really.  I did.  However, I think I like this one better.  Toby Maguire was great, but so is Andrew Garfield.
Loved the glasses.  :)
I was afraid that Andrew Garfield would be too cool to be Spiderman...because while Spiderman is cool, Peter Parker isn't.  He's more of a nerd.  Well, not a nerd, more of a really intelligent guy that's labeled as a nerd.  BUT, Andrew Garfield played that up.  He was a cool nerd/intelligent guy.  :)  He was cool, quick-thinking, intelligent, sort of twitchy, and awkward.  And he's pretty good-looking, too.

This scene was pretty funny.  :P

The scene from the picture above ^^ was hilarious!

Spiderman: Ahem...you know, if you're going to steal cars, don't dress like a car thief!
Car thief: Are you a cop?
Spiderman: You seriously think I'm a cop in a skintight red and blue suit?  You have the mind of a true scholar...

Spiderman: Is that a real knife?
Car thief: Yes, it's a real knife.
Spiderman: Oh, you've found my weakness, it's small knives.  Anything but knives!  *Shoots knife out of car thief's hand*  Oh, it's so simple.

And then you have Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Spiderman's girlfriend/love interest...

I don't know much about Emma Stone...but I know that I loved her in this movie.  She was sweet, she was pretty, she was stylish, and she was a great actress.  I kind of liked her style.  She went for a schoolgirl look, I think, and it was cute and modest for the most part, except for a few outfits.

"Mr. Parker, don't make promises you can't keep."
"Yeah, but those are the best kind..."
Emma/Gwen was so much better for the movie than Mary Jane Watson/Kirsten Dunst, I think.  She was classier and sweeter.  MJ kind of annoyed me.  :P

Gwen: I'm in trouble...

One more thing about Gwen before I go on--I didn't necessarily like her and Spiderman's relationship.  I mean, I kind of did, but I kind of didn't.  They were kind of sweet, but they were too sneaky.  :\  Just my opinion.

Next is the villain...ATTENTION!  There may be spoilers ahead.  :)

Dr. Curt Connors/The Green Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans.

He was nice, and then he was evil, and then he was nice.  He just wanted his arm back, but he ended up becoming something disastrous.  He was interesting, and Rhys played the part well.  He could get pretty scary!

Dr. Connors: There's a rumor of a new species in New York...beautiful, and quite large.
Peter Parker: What do you know about it, Dr. Connors?  Have you seen it?
Dr. Connors: It can be quite aggressive when threatened.

If I was Emma/Gwen in this scene, I would've been totally scared.  Seriously.  How creepy is he?!
I can't say that I like Rhys Ifans himself, but he did do a great job as the villain.  And did you know that he did all of his own stunts as the Lizard?  He rejected his stunt doubles and insisted on doing them himself!  Once you see the movie, you know how much he got slapped around...ouch!  I also read up on how he "became" the Green Lizard.  He would wear a cardboard head, a green suit, and claws, and I guess the rest was done by digital editing.  :)

On to Sally Field as Aunt May and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben...

Love their expressions in this picture!
I loved these two!  Uncle Ben was funny and sweet.  And was it just me, or did he look an awful lot like the original Uncle Ben?  Aunt May was loving and quite funny, too.

Aunt May: Why didn't you tell me you didn't like my meatloaf?
Uncle Ben: Well, I--
Aunt May: You could have told me that in 37 years!  How many meatloafs have I made for you?

But when they needed to be serious and emotional, they were.  They were believable.

And then you have Captain George Stacy, Gwen's father, who was played by Denis Leary.

Okay, so, call me crazy, but does he not remind you of Norman Osborne/the Green Goblin just a little bit?

Denis Leary did an excellent job!  He was a little on the gruff side, but you could tell he cared about his daughter and the rest of his family.  One thing I noticed is that in all the other Spiderman movies, the police are depicted as dumb and helpless...and of course, when facing the Green Goblin or any other supervillains, I guess they would be pretty puny.  But in this Spiderman movie, there was one policeman (Captain Stacy) that could (sort of) compete with Spiderman and The Green Lizard.  He was brave and loyal, and I liked him for that.  He was kind of funny, too.

"Gwen.  Your boyfriend is the man of many masks, I get it!  Now get in the car!"

Captain Stacy: Gwen, do you want some cocoa?
Gwen: No, dad, I don't want cocoa.  I'm 17!
Captain Stacy: Oookay, but I thought I remembered someone saying last week that their fantasy was to live in a chocolate house.
Gwen: Well that's impractical.  And fattening.
*Ducks head back in door.*
Spiderman: A chocolate house?
*Gwen looks out again.*
Sorry, Daddy, I'm just--I can't.  I'm...cramping.
Captain Stacy: Oh, um...I, uh--
Gwen: And I feel pukey and emotional and like I could just cry, and...
Captain Stacy: Oh, okay, well, I um, I--
Gwen: It's brutal.  Trust me, you don't wanna know.
Captain Stacy: Okay, I get it.
Gwen: Okay.  Thanks, Daddy!!

That's pretty much all of the main characters...of course there are Peter's parents, who appear in one or two scenes.  You get a little bit of an idea of what happened to them, so that's good.

That's Campbell Scott as Richard Parker and Embeth Davidtz as Mary Parker.
Oh, and I can't forget Flash (played by Chris Zylka).  Just because he was kind of cool in this movie.  We all remember Flash Thompson, right?  The mean guy that always picked on Peter?

Notice Emma's disgusted look--I think this must be from a deleted scene or something, as I didn't see it in the movie.
Well, in the beginning, he picks on him...and everyone else.  In fact, he really just beats the fire out of Peter in the beginning.  Peter gets him back for it...

But--SPOILER ALERT!--after Uncle Ben dies, he tries to be nice to Peter.  Peter doesn't realize that at first...

But Peter and Flash eventually end up becoming great friends.

This picture's a little blurry--but I still like it because his smile cracks me up.  :P
Does anyone remember this guy?

His name is Michael Papajohn, and in The Amazing Spiderman, he was the guy in the subway that sat his bottle on Spiderman's head and made his instincts kick in.  He was also in the original Spiderman movie (he was the man that supposedly killed Uncle Ben...which of course, we later found out was the Sandman) and somewhere in Spiderman 3.  Remember him now?  I was reading up on him and found out that he is from Alabama, around the area where we have family!  Small world, huh?

My older brother Colt, playing the drums at church...as the "Man of Many Masks".  :)

Well, that's it for today, folks!  That's about it.  Before I leave though, I'm rating Spiderman a 7.5.  I would rate it an 8 or a little higher, but because of the language and such, I'm leaving it at a 7.5.

All in all, though, I really liked this movie.  And I'll leave it at that.  :)
