Faithful Fridays ~ Maria and Ricky

Hi everyone!  It's Friday!  I'm so sorry I haven't been posting...some of you might know that my PawPaw passed away last Thursday.  Things have been kind of crazy and we've all been out of the loop, so I haven't had a whole lot of time to post.  And Blogger got a new look, too!  I have to say...I'm not a fan.  :)  Something with my computer isn't cooperating with the new Blogger quite right.  Hopefully I'll get it all figured out soon.

Anyway...on with the post!

I started Faithful Fridays so that Christians could have one designated day (although, of course, we shouldn't have to keep it to one day) a week to share something from their Faith--a prayer request, answered prayer, Bible verse, song, poem, or just something God's laid on your heart. Just grab the button above (which unfortunately doesn't link to my blog automatically, you'll have to put the link), make your post, then leave a comment letting me know you participated! I'm trying to figure out how to get a link-up on here. Until then, I will have the links to other blogs that participate in Faithful Fridays here on my posts.

My mama participates on her blog, Country Girl at Home...

Ms. Patty participates on her blog, Blessings Beyond...

Ms. Retha participates on her blog, Retha's Rambles...

and Rachel participates on her blog, Stand Out Don't Fit In.

Today's post isn't going to be like a lot of posts.

Today's post is just going to be about people.  Little people.  Two little people, to be exact.

Their names are Maria and Ricky.

They have dark hair.

Almond-shaped dark brown eyes.

Brilliant smiles.

And a little something special--it's often called a special need--but it's really just a special need for love.

Maria and Ricky are orphans.  They live in a little orphanage in Hunan, China.  Both have been on the Shard List for a long time and are now on BAAS (Bay Area Adoption Services--the wonderful agency we used for Luke's adoption)'s list.

Maria, 8 years old, with the big smile, and Ricky, 7 years old, with that adorably mischievous smirk.  :)

Maria was born in August 2003.  She will be turning nine soon, and as you can see, she is about the size of her friend Ricky, or "Di Di," who is seven.  Maria's special needs (for love!) are described as "left cross foot, post-operative resection of benign lumbo-sacral tumor."

Maria needs a family.  In some pictures, Maria's lovely smile has disappeared!

Maria needs a family to put that sunny smile back on her face.  Here's a little bit about her from a mom, Ms. Jan, who adopted from her orphanage:

"'Maria' is 8 years old and has lived in the orphanage with Leiney Grace since she was 2 years old. She had a benign tumor in her lumbosacral area and deformed feet upon admission. She was given surgery in 2006 to remove the sacral meningocele and repair her tethered cord - based on this information- I am assuming she has spina bifida although her file does not state that. According to her growth report in her file and according to our Leiney Grace, "Maria" is a smart little girl and is developmentally on target except for gross motor due to her feet. Her deformed feet have never been treated. From what I have read in her file and asked Leiney Grace, I believe she is continent, but I am asking Xiaoqing (the BAAS coordinator) to check on this.

'She is expressive and a sensible, strong, and brave child. She has difficulty walking in shoes because of deformed feet so sometimes she only wears socks. Especially in winter, she has chillblain (blisters?) on feet which may break, but she still insists on walking alone. All caretakers are moved by this.' Leiney Grace says that she and Mei Mei went to school and that Mei Mei reads every day. She also says that Mei Mei played the violin with her. The two of them slept together and apparently were very close yet when Leiney Grace left the orphanage to come meet her mama, Mei Mei did not cry and told her to 'Go to Mama and Baba.' Oh, how I want this child to know the love of a family and most importantly the love of Jesus and the hope He brings."

And Ricky.  Adorable Ricky.

Ricky was born in March, 2005.  Ricky's special need (for love!) is "polydactyly of hands and feet and cleft lip and palate."

Ricky has an adorable, mischievous look about him--I have a feeling there's a whole lot of personality behind that face!  :)

Here's what Ms. Jan wrote about Ricky:

"'Ricky'just turned 7 in March. He has been in the orphanage since he was a newborn. He is post-operative for polydactyly of hands and feet (extra fingers, toes) and is listed as having cleft lip, palate, deformity of tongue, and cleft vermilion tubercle. I do not see a cleft lip in his photos.

He does have a deformity of his tonuge and mouth. He can speak but Leiney Grace says his tongue is a circle - not so sure about that. He will likely need surgery and speech therapy though. He is described as "a very diligent child, takes an initiative to clean the room, clever and gentle."

Both of these children desperately need a home!  I have more pictures of both children.  If you would like to see them and would like more information, you can either email me at: countrygirlathome@att.net or Ms. Jan at dfbjhb@windstream.net

Not everyone can adopt, and I understand that.  Please, please keep these children in your prayers.

(Late) Faithful Fridays ~ October Baby

Hi everyone!  Well...it's Saturday...and you know what that means!  Wait, no, no, you don't.  I should have done this post a day earlier!  :)  I'm very sorry about that!  As a lot of you know, my grandpa (known as PawPaw)'s cancer has gotten really bad.  We've had a lot of family coming in and things have been quite hectic.  :)

I started Faithful Fridays so that Christians could have one designated day (although, of course, we shouldn't have to keep it to one day) a week to share something from their Faith--a prayer request, answered prayer, Bible verse, song, poem, or just something God's laid on your heart. A week or two ago, my family went to see October Baby on its opening night.

This movie is amazing.  Powerful.  Encouraging.  Really inspiring.  Definitely one of the best movies that's been out since Courageous.  I love this movie!

Here's the trailer:

Here's the synopsis:

"You saw me before I was born." Psalm 139:16 (NLT)

As the curtain rises, Hannah hesitantly steps onto the stage for her theatrical debut in college. Yet before she can utter her first lines, Hannah—unscripted—collapses in front of the stunned audience.

After countless medical tests, all signs point to one underlying factor: Hannah's difficult birth. This revelation is nothing compared to what she then learns from her parents: she was actually adopted … after a failed abortion attempt.

Bewildered, angered, and confused, Hannah turns for support to Jason, her oldest friend. Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, Hannah joins his group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past … and find hope for her unknown future.

In the midst of her incredible journey, Hannah finds that life can be so much more than what you have planned.

                                                  ~*~

This movie stars some of the bigger stars like John Schneider as Hannah's dad, Jacob...

and Jasmine Guy as the former abortion clinic nurse, Mary.

And a few newer stars such as the beautiful Rachel Hendrix as Hannah herself...

And Jason Burkey as Jason.

And then you have Jennifer Price as Hannah's mom, Grace...

and Shari Rigby as Hannah's birthmother, Cindy.

And I cannot tell you how awesome Chris Sligh was as B-Mac.  You might remember Chris Sligh from American Idol in 2007.

B-Mac is the cousin of Truman, Jason's friend.  B-Mac "chaperones" the group that Hannah joins on a roadtrip in this pretty cute hippie van.  :)  Let me just say that the funniest scenes star  B-Mac.  :P
There's Truman and B-Mac there in the van.  :)
And for you guys who have seen Courageous...

Javier (Robert Amaya) plays a small part in October Baby as a police officer (ironic, right?)!  :)

The movie opens with this line:

"I'm Hannah and this is my story.  And...it's not what you think."

We're off to see it again this evening with my friend, Christina, and my grandparents.  I encourage you to grab a friend (or two, or three, or four...) and go see it!  In the meantime, here's a bit more about the movie:

-It's based on Gianna Jessen's story.  Gianna survived a saline abortion and now travels around the world, advocting for life and for Jesus Christ.  Of the movie, Gianna said:

"I laughed so hard, I cried so hard, and I healed.  Thank you."

It's been reviewed by Francesca Battistelli, Mark Hall (from Casting Crowns), and others.

Abortion is killing children, and while this movie is about more than abortion--it's about choosing forgiveness, choosing love, and choosing life--it is raising much needed awareness about abortion and all of its effects on the people involved.  We need to see it, and support it.  We need to get the word out about it, because it can change--and save--lives.

Have a great day, everyone!
God bless you!
Joy :)

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter, my friends!  Let's spend time with our family and friends and remember what happened on this day!
*All images via Pinterest except for the last one*

And I couldn't resist...we were talking about this issue this past week and lo and behold I get this in my email from Fish with Trish...

The Christians of the old church used to greet each other by saying, "He is risen."  The other person would then say, "He is risen indeed."

He is risen.
He is risen indeed!

God bless you guys and have a happy Easter!
Love,
Joy :D

Faithful Fridays ~ The Ultimate Journal

Hi everyone!  It's Friday again!  That means it's time for Faithful Fridays!  But you know what?  I got another post in between this Friday and last Friday.  Aren't you proud of me?  :)  I really am going to try to boost up my blog posts.  And a giveaway might just be in order once I get 200 followers.  :)  Think we can do it?!

On with today's post...

I started Faithful Fridays so that Christians could have one designated day a week (although I don't think they should keep it to just one day) to share something about their Faith--a prayer request, answered prayer, Bible verse, something God's laid on your heart, etc. To participate in Faithful Fridays, just grab the button above for your post along with a link to my blog somewhere in your post, too. After you've published your post, please come and leave a comment with a link to your blog letting me know you participated! After I see you've participated a few times, I will add you to this list of regular Faithful Friday-ers!

                                           ~*~
How many of you guys journal?  No matter how little or how much you do it, it can be fun, helpful, stress-relieving, and a great place to vent.  :)  I've recently taken it up more recently.  Hobby Lobby sells these leather journals that are completely blank.  No lines, just beautiful, thick, blank paper.  Journals are great for improving writing skills, and just getting our thoughts sorted out, right?  We can just tell everything that happened throughout the whole day and go to sleep with a sort of closure.  I mean, we write things in our journals that we would probably never say out loud, am I right?

I had been thinking about all this and about how I loved journaling when I opened my devotional book, Jesus Calling (For Kids) by Sarah Young.  The Jesus Calling devotionals, in case you don't know, are written as if Jesus is speaking directly to you.  The date was April 1st--yes, April Fool's Day--and this was what I read:

Yes, Everything.**

Pray continually.
-1 Thessalonians 5:17

I am waiting to hear from you.  Tell Me about every detail of your day.  I want to know what happened at home and at school, and how you felt about it.  The big stuff, the little stuff, even the crazy stuff that you just don't understand.  I want to be that best Friend that you just can't wait to talk to.

Remember, I don't expect you to do everything perfectly.  What I do expect is that you will come to Me in prayer about everything--yes, everything--that happens in your life.  The good stuff, the bad stuff, the stuff you woudl never tell anyone else.

A great day is not just one in which everything goes your way.  A truly great day is one in which you stay in touch with Me.  Talk to Me, and My Spirit will guide you every minute, every step of the way.

                                                  ~*~

**Please note that everything from the title "Yes, Everything" to the "~*~" was copied from Sarah Young's Jesus Calling Devotional for Kids--it is her material.

So, in other words, Jesus is to be our Ultimate Journal.  The One we tell everything to, things we wouldn't say out loud, things that don't seem to matter, the things that do seem to matter and are weighing heavy on us, everything!  Until a few days ago, I guess I didn't really do that because I figured that God already knew everything (which He does), and there was no reason to tell it to Him all over again.  But there is, because that is the way we grow our relationship with Him, just like we grow a friendship by talking together, laughing together, and even crying together.

So those are my thoughts for today's Faithful Friday.  I hope it helps you in some way!

Have a great day and God bless you!
Joy :D

Story Startin'

Hi everyone!  I'm very sorry that I've been so MIA lately!  I think it's been a combination of business and not really knowing what to post.

But, I have a couple of posts in mind for you, so you better get ready.  :)

                                       ~*~

I love to write.  I love to read.  Actually, I love anything that has to do with English!  Reading, writing, grammar, spelling, you name it!

I also love pretending--imagining, thinking, creating, that sort of thing.

So what do you get when you put those two together?

Story starting!  Take a picture.  Preferrably an old one, like this:

{This picture via Google--is it just me, or does the lady in the middle remind you of the housekeeper from the Brady Bunch?!}

And then begin writing--maybe a story, a "journal", or just imagine what the personality of the people in the pictures were.

Like that man there on the left--his name is Frederick Von Schneider.  He is a rough, but educated, man, slim, tall, but not very handsome.  His wife there in the middle--yes, the only one in the picture that is smiling--is Elise Von Schneider.  She is the life of the Von Schneider home, always merry, keeping things lively and keeping the rest of the family on their toes--her husband in particular.

Beside Elise is Jacob, the small boy on the right.  He is five years old, serious at some times, but mischievious at others, but generally a bit shy.  As you can see by the protective hand on his mother's lap, he is very close to Elise.

On the other side of Elise is six year old William, affectionately called Willie by everyone in the family.  Willie is a chubby, smart little boy who is full of life--and a bit full of himself, if you were to ask his older sisters.  :)

Topping off the lineup of boys in the familiy is Isaac, who is standing behind Willie and Frederick.  Isaac is a proud, somewhat stuffy boy, but just like any other twelve year old boy, he loves sports and playing with his friends.

Across from Isaac, with her hand on Elise's back, is Eleanor, the quiet, serious middle girl of the family, at eleven.  Eleanor prefers her nickname, Elle.  Elle likes reading, staying secluded in the bedroom she shares with her sisters, and studying.  She has a small, tight circle of friends.

Beside Elle is Josephine, the complacent, fun, youngest girl of the family at nine.  "Josie" is easy-going, laid-back, and fun.  She's a sweet girl, easy to make friends with, but not quite a social butterfly.

Sitting by Josie is Hattie, the oldest girl of the family at thirteen, soon to be fourteen.  She is responsible and dignified, but not above having fun when it's in order.  She's a great help to her mother and she loves helping her father in his office, although the rest of the Concord, Massachusetts, society doesn't think it is quite acceptable for a girl to do males' work.

All in all, The Von Schneider family is quite different from other families in their community.  They have more fun, less worries, more relaxation, less strict society-ness.  They march to the beat of their own drum and try their best to exhibit Christianity as it should be done--genuinely.

                                      ~*~

That was very fun.  :)  I think I might just have to do it again, if you guys aren't tired of it already!  :P

Oh, and before I say goodbye, I wanted to invite you guys to go enter Lucia's awesome 900 Follower Giveaway HERE.  There are some pretty great prizes over there!

God bless you!
Joy :D

P.S. How do you guys like the new blog look?!  I'm working on a new header, new font, font colors, etc., so it's still sort of "under construction".
