Faithful Fridays ~ Should've Been Me

Hey everyone!  It's Friday!

I was just reflecting on how it seemed like I hadn't done Faithful Friday in a while...and then I realized I hadn't!  We were in Alabama last weekend and didn't get to post then, so I haven't participated in two weeks!  Sorry about that.  :)  I've got a song to share with you guys today, though...and let me tell you, it's something special.  I love it.  :)

I started Faithful Fridays so that Christians could have one designated day (although, of course, we shouldn't have to keep it to one day) a week to share something from their Faith--a prayer request, answered prayer, Bible verse, song, poem, or just something God's laid on your heart. Just grab the button above (which unfortunately doesn't link to my blog automatically, you'll have to put the link), make your post, then link up below!

                                              ~*~
I was listening to K-Love the other day.  I think we all know how much I love K-Love, our handy Christian radio station...it just rocks!  And you can get it too--just check out the website and find your local tuning!

Anyway, I've heard this song come on a few times recently, and I just love it.  It's called Should've Been Me and it's by Citizen Way.  I love these lyrics...because I think that sometimes we I go through all the motions of going to church, reading my Bible, praying, and all that, and it never quite goes through the surface.  And this song just kind of puts things into respective.  It should've been me.  I should've been hanging there on a cross.

I've read the story
I've seen the movie
I give to charity
And tithe my ten percent
These I remember
But I so easily forget
All these years never heard it like this

It should've been me
It should've been us
Should've been there hanging on a cross
All of this shame
All of these scars
Should've been stains that were never washed
Why do I hide
Why do you try
Over and over and over again
I guess it just leaves saying thank God
It leaves me saying thank God, thank God
For the should've been

I live a good life
I love a great wife
Our kids are beautiful
We got friends down the street
If I'm so thankful
Why do I easily forget
That you died for all of this

For this heart you changed
This soul you raised
My God for taking my place
When…

Ben Calhoun from Citizen Way told the story of how "Should've Been Me" came about:

"Should've Been Me is one of those songs that was already written before I wrote it.  I was leading worship at a summer camp and the leader asked the students to sum up what they learned that week. One of the students said ‘Well, basically I learned that.., it should've been me.’ A melody and lyrics hit me like a freight train and I sang this song for everyone 20 minutes later. It's a reminder of what the Lord has done, and what He is doing in all of us whether we recognize it or not. It still humbles me and continues to change my heart.”

I love this song and the meaning it carries.  It makes me start thinking every time I hear it.  I hope it does something for you, too.  :)
